Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin
In a statement by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the appointment comes with immediate effect and Ismail Sabri will retain his Defence Minister portfolio.
"The appointment will help the Prime Minister in governing the country and fulfil the people's needs as the country is currently facing a health and economy crisis," the statement said.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein will be made into a Senior Minister
The statement said that he will take over the Security Cluster which was previously headed by Ismail Sabri.
"Moreover, the Prime Minister has agreed to let Hishammuddin help him in managing the National Recovery Plan," it continued.
"Both appointments were made known to the Agong and will be effective immediately."
