Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has proposed increasing the sales tax on imported premium items, such as salmon and avocados
Anwar made the proposal while tabling the Supply Bill 2025 today, 18 October.
However, he assured the public that the move would not affect the prices of basic food items.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the sales and services tax (SST) will be broadened and made more progressive starting 1 May 2025 to increase government revenue.
