Budget 2025 is being tabled today, 18 October, at Parliament Malaysia, with Ramli Mohd Nor making history as the first Orang Asli to preside over the session

Wearing traditional woven headgear, Ramli proudly represents the Semai tribe as the first federal lawmaker from his community.

"This is made by the villagers in Cameron Highlands and they gifted it to me.

"I'm wearing it today as a symbol that I am the first Orang Asli MP, this is my first speech in the Dewan Rakyat, and I carry this identity to show our existence and that this is our voice," he said, according to Malaysiakini.

During an earlier debate, Ramli urged the government to move the Orang Asli Development Department under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

He argued that, during the BN administration, the ministry in charge of Orang Asli affairs had more resources and better access to their communities in rural areas. In contrast, the current portfolio indirectly suggests that the Orang Asli are not fully integrated with other races in Malaysia.

In a speech, Ramli also called on the government to upgrade existing facilities for the Orang Asli community, including the Gombak Orang Asli Hospital, which was established during British rule.
