In an incident that occurred yesterday morning, 13 March, the ceiling of the Waterfront Hotel in Kuching collapsed

It was reportedly caused by the continuous heavy rain

According to a report in NST Online, the downpour started early Tuesday morning, during which tonnes of water was dumped on the roof.

The hotel's ceiling, unable to hold the pressure, caved-in, sending water all over The Waterfront Hotel's carpeting.

Luckily, no one was hurt in the incident

Meanwhile, according to Kuching Deputy police chief Superintendent Abang Junaidi Abang Anuar, a section of the nearby Plaza Merdeka's ceiling also collapsed

Confirming the incident, Plaza Merdeka issued a statement on its Facebook page.

"At approximately 6am today (13 March), it was noted that certain parts of the mall, including Level 3 Food Plaza was affected by the heavy rainfall which caused leaking.

"Cleaning works have been immediately attended and repair works are ongoing. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your kind understanding."

It added that there were no casualties during the incident.
