High Commission of Canada in Malaysia expresses concern, questioning judicial independence and selective prosecutions in Malaysia.

The High Commission of Canada in Malaysia posted in their official Facebook page today in response to the conviction of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the opposition leader.

In the statement released, the high Commission of Canada in Malaysia stated that the conviction of Anwar Ibrahim has raised serious questions about judicial independence and selective prosecutions in Malaysia.

It is also stated in the statement that the rule of law is a core value and principle essential to the flourishing of democracy serving the institutions of a peaceful and prosperous society.

"Mr. Anwar’s conviction also comes at a time when Canada and other countries have conveyed concerns regarding selective prosecutions in Malaysia, including under the Sedition Act."

A petition has been created, by Americans on an online site that allows Americans to petition the US government on a wide range of issues, calling Barack Obama's administration to speed up the release of Anwar Ibrahim.
