A food delivery rider and his customer who was angry that his order was not delivered to his doorstep were each fined RM800 at the Magistrate's court in Kajang for brawling in public
A video of the fight between the 27-year-old rider, Jasmady Jasman, and his 33-year-old customer, Saiful Shazni Hanif, in front of a security guardhouse went viral on social media last week.
According to New Straits Times, the incident occured at 11.15am on 25 November at a condominium in Bandar Mahkota Cheras when Jasmady wanted to deliver food to Saiful's doorstep as requested, but was stopped by the security.
After calling Saiful, who works as a personal bodyguard, to pick up the food at the guardhouse himself, the unsatisfied customer came down and began shouting offensive words towards Jasmady before shoving him to the ground, which led to a fight.
They were charged under Section 159 of the Penal Code for committing affray
The offence for fighting in public carries a maximum six months' jail term or a fine of up to RM1,000 or both, upon conviction.
According to Berita Harian, both men pleaded for leniency.
Jasmady, who was not represented by a lawyer, said he had acted in self-defence. He had also sustained injuries and his motorcycle was damaged during the incident.
Saiful, also unrepresented by a lawyer, asked for a lenient sentence as he was his family's sole breadwinner.
In the end, both men pleaded guilty to the offence
Magistrate Syahrul Sazly Md Sain imposed each of them a fine of RM800 after deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin asked the court for a deterrent sentence as a lesson.
The court also ordered both of them to serve a week's jail if they failed to pay the fine.
