For most of his life, 23-year-old Xiaoma from Xian, Shanxi province, had no idea he was carrying a peculiar souvenir from childhood — a dice lodged deep in his nasal cavity

His recent visit to Xian Gaoxin Hospital revealed this astonishing discovery after years of unexplained nasal congestion and sneezing.

According to the South China Morning Post, Xiaoma endured worsening symptoms of a runny nose and persistent sneezing for nearly a month.

Traditional Chinese medicine provided no relief, prompting him to seek help from medical professionals. What doctors found was far from ordinary.

A nasal endoscopy performed by Yang Rong, an otolaryngologist, uncovered a white foreign object coated in secretions

Closer examination revealed it was a 2cm dice, partially corroded and embedded in the lower nasal passage.

Xiaoma vaguely remembered an incident from when he was three or four years old, suspecting he had accidentally inhaled the dice during playtime.

Over the years, it had fused with surrounding tissues, making extraction a delicate task. Any misstep during surgery could have sent the object tumbling into his airway, risking suffocation.

Fortunately, surgeons successfully removed the dice, marking the end of its two-decade residence in Xiaoma's nose

While he appears to have recovered well, it remains unclear if the prolonged presence of the foreign object has caused any lasting effects.

The incident has sparked shock and incredulity online. Many marvelled at Xiaoma's ability to live with the dice for so long, while others called it a cautionary tale for parents.

A dice in the nose might sound like the plot of a comedy, but for Xiaoma, it was a startling reminder of how childhood mischief can leave a lasting impact.
