Malaysians’ Life Expectancy Rises To 75.5 Years, Women Live 5 Years More Than Men

Life expectancy in Malaysia has risen to 75.5 years, with women expected to live nearly five years longer than men, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM)
According to the New Straits Times, DOSM's latest Abridged Life Tables Malaysia 2024–2026 showed that life expectancy at birth increased from 74.9 years in 2024 to 75.5 years in 2026.
Girls born in 2026 are expected to live until an average age of 78.1 years, compared to 73.2 years for boys.

Three states and federal territories recorded life expectancies higher than the national average
Selangor recorded the highest life expectancy among the states and federal territories at 78.2 years, followed by Kuala Lumpur at 77.3 years and Labuan at 77.0 years.
Meanwhile, Terengganu recorded the lowest life expectancy at 72.8 years.
At the district level, some areas recorded life expectancies of more than 80 years. Samarahan, Sarawak recorded the highest at 80.9 years, followed by Kalabakan, Sabah at 80.4 years and Petaling, Selangor at 80.2 years.
Telupid, Sabah recorded a life expectancy of 79.5 years, while Lahad Datu, Sabah recorded 78.8 years.
At the other end of the scale, Kecil Lojing, Kelantan recorded the lowest life expectancy at 65.8 years.

By ethnicity, Chinese Malaysians recorded the highest life expectancy at 77.7 years
Meanwhile, Indian Malaysians recorded the lowest figures among the major ethnic groups.
