Foreign-registered vehicles entering Singapore by land must have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) before travellers can submit their SG Arrival Card from 6 October
According to the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), travellers entering Singapore by foreign-registered car through Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint will need to ensure their vehicle has a valid VEP before submitting their arrival card.
This is because the SG Arrival Card system will begin verifying the VEP status of foreign-registered vehicles during submission.
If the vehicle does not have a valid VEP, travellers will not be able to complete their SG Arrival Card submission. They will instead be prompted to apply for a VEP before travelling to Singapore.
The ICA said the advance verification is intended to alert travellers, including passengers, if the vehicle they are travelling in does not have a valid VEP
This gives motorists an opportunity to rectify the issue before their journey and avoid being turned back at the land checkpoints.
"Vehicles without a valid VEP will be turned back to Malaysia," the authority emphasised.
The ICA said the VEP verification also ensures the vehicle has valid motor insurance for its stay in Singapore in the event of a road accident
"A VEP cannot be issued without motor insurance," said the ICA.
It added that VEP verification will be progressively extended to other vehicle types at Singapore's land checkpoints.
