ERT Train Carrying 336 Passengers Crashes Into 14 Cows

The passengers of an Ekspres Rakyat Timuran (ERT) train had the shock of their lives when it collided with a stray herd of cows in the wee hours of Thursday morning, 1 November

All 336 passengers and five crew members escaped unhurt in the 3.10am incident, which took place at KM84.50 - KM84.75 between Bahau and Triang Station in Bera, Pahang.

Bera district police chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir said the collision killed all 14 cows and also caused some damage to the eight-wagon train, reported Harian Metro.

Zulkiflee also said a similar incident took place at the same location on 31 October, in which a train carrying 400 passengers collided with five cows.

The train, which was travelling from Gemas, Negeri Sembilan, to Tumpat, Kelantan, resumed its journey after a thorough damage inspection was conducted

Following the incident, Zulkifli said appropriate action should be taken by all concerned parties to prevent worse incidents in the future.

He also said farmers need to be more responsible in taking care of their livestock.
