Father Allegedly Assaults Motorcyclist Over Loud Exhaust That Woke His Baby

A man allegedly assaulted a motorcyclist at a convenience store in Mersing, Johor, after a noisy exhaust woke his baby

The incident happened at about 1am on 25 September at Jalan Ismail.

Authorities were alerted after a one-minute-45-second video of the incident went viral on social media.

Mersing district police chief Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said the incident involved two local men

"The incident at about 1am occurred after the suspect, who is also a local man, was infuriated when he claimed the victim overtook the vehicle he was riding in and sounded the exhaust loudly until it caused the baby held by his wife to wake up and cry," he said, according to Berita Harian.

"The suspect then proceeded to hit the victim, who is also a local man. As a result of the incident, the victim sought treatment at the hospital and was confirmed to have suffered injuries on his left cheek and stomach," Abdul Razak added.

Authorities are investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt

The paperwork was completed and sent to the Johor deputy public prosecutor yesterday, 29 September.

"The suspect is directed to be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and the charge will be made at the Mersing Magistrate's Court tomorrow (30 September)," Abdul Razak said.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to one year in prison, a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.

The police advised the public against acting on emotion, as hasty physical reactions can lead to serious personal consequences.
