Kinabatangan MP Says Flight Tickets To Sabah Are More Expensive Than Going Overseas

Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has raised concerns about the high cost of flight tickets from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, and vice versa
According to the New Straits Times, Bung said that the cost of an economy class one-way ticket to Sabah has risen to RM1,700, which is significantly more than the price for international flights.
"To Singapore and the Philippines, tickets cost only RM700; to Indonesia, it's RM600, yet to Sabah it's RM1,700. This is outrageous," he said during his debate on the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday, 23 October.
Bung urged the transport minister to address this issue, emphasising the burden it places on the people of Sabah, especially those travelling to the peninsula for business and other purposes
Last month, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the government would maintain two subsidy initiatives for domestic flight ticket purchases to help ease the cost of living.
These included the ongoing subsidies for students of higher education institutions travelling on domestic routes (FLYsiswa) and a price cap policy for flights during festive seasons.
In December last year, the cabinet approved a proposal to subsidise one-way economy flight tickets exceeding RM599 from Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan during the Christmas holidays
This policy also extends to other festive seasons, including Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Kaamatan, and Gawai celebrations for a duration of three days each.
