Gemas–JB ETS Service Set To Launch In Q3 2025
The route will connect Padang Besar in the north all the way to Johor Bahru in the south.
The long-awaited Electric Train Service (ETS) from Gemas to Johor Bahru, which connects to the existing Padang Besar–Gemas line, is on track for completion by the third quarter of this year
Once operational, the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Track Rail Project (Gemas-JB EDTP) will cut travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru to four and a half hours, down from seven hours by diesel train.
This electrified route will also link the entirety of the West Coast Rail Network, enabling a seamless railway connection from Padang Besar in the north to Johor Bahru in the south.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced this update in January, as reported by the New Straits Times.
The Gemas–JB electric train service covers 192km of track with 11 stops
According to Selangor Journal, the service will pass through four major districts in Johor — Segamat, Kluang, Kulai, and Johor Bahru — before ending at JB Sentral.
The route will feature new ETS3 trains with a seating capacity of 312, with 36 in business class and 276 in standard seats.
These trains will operate at speeds of up to 140km/h.
