A sexagenarian from Batu Pahat, Johor, has been remanded by the police after admitting on video to raping his 13-year-old granddaughter
In a series of viral videos posted on Threads by his daughter-in-law the 67-year-old retiree admitted to committing the alleged acts to his distressed family.
He is alleged to have sexually assaulted his granddaughter last year while under his care in Batu Pahat.
The girl had been living with her grandfather following her parents' divorce. However, she later moved to a northern state to live with her mother in April 2025.
The case came to light after the teenager recently disclosed the incident to her mother.
The mother initially grew suspicious after discovering messages the teenager had sent to an acquaintance
Although the girl was initially reluctant, she later confided that she had been assaulted by her grandfather.
The mother then lodged a police report on 8 June after confronting the suspect at her home. The suspect was subsequently arrested.
Initial police investigations found that the alleged incidents occurred throughout 2025, with the final assault taking place in December 2025
Magistrate Arun Noval Dass granted a six-day remand order at the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court yesterday, 10 June.
According to the New Straits Times, the suspect is being investigated under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.
The mother later shared an update on Threads, stating that her daughter is safe and receiving medical attention.
The mother expressed shock, anger, and deep emotional distress over the incident
"We are still at the hospital and my child is in a calm state," the mother wrote, apologising for her visible anger in the viral videos.
She clarified that her reaction stemmed from frustration as her child was initially too afraid to speak up.
