Hannah Yeoh And Nurul Izzah Want Cyberbullying Of Zahid's Granddaughter To End
"She is too young to understand what is going on."
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's nine-year-old granddaughter Sofee is facing backlash from netizens after a video of her saying she will "make you regret your life" went viral
In an Instagram video uploaded by her mother Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, the child can be heard saying, "You can lock my grandpa up, but not his soul and his fighting spirit. We are his family and we will never stop praying for him."
"I will make your life un-peaceful. I will make you regret your life. Remember, I am only nine years old and I am my country's future."
The video has received criticism from netizens since it was posted on Friday, 19 October.
After seeing the harsh response directed towards Sofee, Hannah Yeoh has come to the nine-year-old's defence
"I ask that we stop sharing the child's video. She is too young to understand what is going on and it is normal for kids to be attached to grandparents," Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Hannah Yeoh wrote in a Twitter post.
"Adults should know better and not manipulate her emotions. The child is innocent," she added.
Echoing Yeoh's sentiments, Nurul Izzah said that, "We each have to do our bit to reject bullying in any form whatsoever."
"Leave the child alone. Best to keep your nasties to yourself," said the Permatang Pauh MP.
Child rights activist Dr Hartini has also called out the young girl's critics, saying that, "You can't have it both ways - be outraged when cyberbullying happens to one child and say it's okay to do so because you don't like her family's politics! Lay off her! You have no right," according to The Star.
