In May this year, mounting debt and slow business had forced the Air Itam Market Laksa shop in Penang to close down after 66 years

The shop owner, Ang Kak Seong, in a Facebook post, had said that he had to close the world-renowned asam laksa shop after being financially hit by the MCO and harassment from debt collectors.

Ang reached out to Air Itam assemblyperson Joseph Ng Soon Siang for help in the matter.

Now, the famous Air Itam Market Laksa shop has reopened

Air Itam assemblyperson Joseph Ng took to his Facebook page on Friday, 3 December to share the news.

According to Joseph Ng, the stall will now operate during weekends, starting from 4 December.

Joseph Ng shared that the 72-year shop owner finally decided to reopen the famous stall after several mediations and consultations

The Air Itam assemblyperson said that as soon he learned about the owner's positive decision, he rushed back to Air Itam Market to cheer him up and help him hang up the famous sign.
