The Home Ministry has reversed the ban on two memoirs last month
According to FMT, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the books, written by late Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) members, were lifted from the ban in accordance with his powers under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.
A federal gazette published last month stated that Memoir Shamsiah Fakeh: Dari Awas ke Rejimen Ke-10 and Komrad Asi (Rejimen 10): Dalam Denyut Nihilisme Sejarah were no longer subject to the ban.
The first memoir was written by CPM leader Shamsiah Fakeh, while the second was authored by CPM member Aziz Suriani.
The two books had previously been banned for allegedly promoting communist elements and ideologies.
Publisher Chong Ton Sin challenged the prohibition in court, arguing that the ban was unreasonable as both books had already been available to the public for years.
Chong's lawyer has since withdrawn the legal challenges
Shamsiah's granddaughter, DAP's Bandar Utama assemblyperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin, had also previously criticised the ban.
She said the memoir documented her grandmother's life and experiences rather than promoting extremist activities, and expressed disappointment over what she described as the ministry's "baseless" decision.
