How Does Tun M Stay Healthy & Look Young? Netizens Think The Answer Is In This Photo
The answer to your burning question is here.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently made an extraordinary political comeback after he led Pakatan Harapan coalition to end Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition's 60-year grip on power in the 14th General Election
15 years after he stepped down as the country's premier in 2003, Mahathir sworn in as Malaysia’s seventh prime minister at the ripe age of 92 on 10 May 2018.
Mahathir, who held the position previously for 22 years, has also been recognised as the world's oldest elected leader.
"At the age of 92 years 141 days, he is now the oldest current Prime Minister having been born on 20 December 1925," read a post published on Guinness World Records on 11 May.
Mahathir's political resurgence led people to take notice that he has managed to stay healthy and keep a sharp mind despite his advanced age.
This left many people wondering — what is his "secret"?
A photo circulating on social media recently seemed to have the answer to that golden question
The viral photo depicts Mahathir with his wife, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah, at a dining table. The photo is presumably taken just before they shared a meal together.
While it looks like just another ordinary photo of the couple, netizens quickly took notice of the portion of rice on a plate that was placed in front of Mahathir.
"No wonder Tun is healthy at 93 years of age. Look at that (amount of) rice. That one pinch of rice is definitely not enough for us. One mouthful and it's gone," read the post shared on the 'Cempedak Cheese' Facebook Page.
Meanwhile, others have picked up on that small green tube next to his plate
The cheeky post by the 'Penang La Nii' Facebook page has been shared over 12,000 times as of writing, with the caption, "Berocca is sure to be sold out tomorrow at pharmacies!"
In case you haven't heard of it, Berocca is a multivitamin that helps you stay focused and energised
Berocca is said to be sold out in some pharmacies already
Seems like everything Mahathir touches turns to gold, like these RM12 Bata slippers. Pretty soon, people will be carrying Berocca as an accessory...
According to their website, Berocca contains 8 vitamin B-complex, 500mg vitamin C, 100mg calcium, 100mg magnesium, and 10mg zinc. This video from the brand explains how Berocca helps start your day.
This photo that has gone viral is not actually new
It was first shared by Mahathir's eldest daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir back in 2015 after news surfaced that Mahathir had fallen ill with fever and chest pain.
Even back then, the photo had gotten many people's attention about Mahathir's diet, to which Marina responded in the comments later, "I didn't realise that the photo would inspire you all to eat healthier too! I am actually away on a fitness retreat. The first time I went some years ago, I came home enthusiastically telling dad what I learnt about nutrition and eating there. And he simply said, 'But that's what I do.'"
Mahathir has spoken about how he leads a healthy lifestyle on multiple occasions in the past few years
Dubbed as the "grand old man of Malaysian politics", Mahathir has been consistent when dishing out his advice and "secret" to looking young.
In 2013, Mahathir who was 88 years old then said, "People always ask me how I managed to survive this long, (it lies in) simple things ... not over-eating, not eating too much.
"It’s a great struggle for me ... but I try not to eat too much. I don't smoke and I don't drink."
He repeated himself throughout the years whenever he was asked how his age has never slowed him down.
"When I am asked about my health, that's all. I do not smoke, I don't drink (alcohol) either. I take a moderate diet, no matter how delicious the food," he was quoted as saying in a report by Malaysiakini last year.
Mahathir also held on to his mother's golden advice dearly as he recalled her words of wisdom, "My mother always told me that when the food tastes good, that's the time you must stop eating."
Bloomberg in a recent report also revealed some of Mahathir's habits on how he has been maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
According to Mahathir, he routine includes waking up everyday at 6.30, walking, pumping iron, cycling, and horse riding.
Mahathir is also apparently a firm believer in mental exercises as he said, "Read and write. Exercise your brain."
