Residents of a village in Gua Musang, Kelantan, are terrified of a wild bear that, they claim, has been roaming around their backyards

According to Berita Harian today, 9 January, more than 200 Orang Asli residents of Kampung Perawas, Pos Balar in Gua Musang were terrified when the wild bear was spotted near their village last week.

One of the residents, 50-year-old Mazlan Aluij said that the wild bear dug up his wife's grave on the morning of 27 December and consumed her remains, reported New Straits Times.

He said his wife died due to a stroke and was buried in the Kampung Dakoh graveyard on 1 December.

Mazlan said that he noticed footprints and bear excrement when he went to the graveyard to clean his wife's grave on 26 December

According to him, he was there with his son.

"The next day, I brought the village residents along to check the area," he said, adding that they found that his wife's remains were eaten by the wild bear, which was roaming around the graveyard.

"The distance between the house and the graveyard is only about 300m. It had become routine for us to visit and clean graves, but there was nothing suspicious before this," he said.

"The wild bear that was roaming around my backyard also attacked a pet dog, so we filed a complaint with the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) to take immediate action."

Mazlan, along with some other Orang Asli from the Temiar tribe, has since filed a police report.
