If you've recently updated the address on your MyKad, don't assume your voting constituency has also changed
Many Malaysians are unaware that changing the address on their IC does not automatically update their voting constituency.
For example, you may be originally from Melaka but are now living and working in Kuala Lumpur. Even if you update your MyKad address to your current home in KL, you will still remain a voter in Melaka unless you separately apply to change your polling address with the Election Commission (SPR).
In other words, your IC address and voting constituency can be different.
Can you still vote if your IC address and voting constituency don't match?
Yes.
As long as your name is registered on the electoral roll for a particular constituency, you are legally allowed to vote there, regardless of the address stated on your MyKad.
So, if you moved from Melaka to Kuala Lumpur and only changed your IC address without updating your voting details with SPR, you will still vote in your original constituency in Melaka.

If you wish to change your voting constituency to your current place of residence, there is an extra step involved.
First, you must update the address on your MyKad. Only then can you submit an application to change your polling address with SPR, as having an updated IC address is a prerequisite for changing your voting constituency.

Regardless of the address on your IC, you can always check your current voting constituency through the MySPR Semak website.
This allows you to confirm your polling station and decide whether you wish to continue voting there or apply to change your voting address.
