Five more Immigration Department officers have been arrested in Putrajaya as authorities investigate a major system breach involving the alleged issuance of fraudulent employment passes
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained four men and one woman, aged in their 30s and 40s, around 1pm yesterday, 3 August, after they arrived at MACC headquarters to have their statements recorded.
According to the New Straits Times, preliminary investigations revealed that the five officers allegedly conspired to hack the Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs), issuing fraudulent Temporary Employment Visit Passes (PLKS) without complying with proper procedures.
Previously, a joint operation by MACC and the Immigration Department dismantled a syndicate accused of hacking the immigration system
The joint operation led to the arrest of 12 individuals after the syndicate allegedly compromised MyIMMs, causing an estimated RM2.4 million loss to the government.
As part of the ongoing operation, codenamed Op Crack, investigators seized five mobile phones for forensic analysis and froze nine bank accounts containing approximately RM300,000
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Sections 17(a) and 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
Abd Halim noted that all five suspects will be brought before the Putrajaya Magistrate's Court for remand proceedings.
