Ipoh Ambulance Driver Allegedly Dies From Exhaustion After Transporting COVID-19 Patient

The Ministry of Health is still investigating the ambulance driver's exact cause of death.

An ambulance driver collapsed in exhaustion and passed away after transporting a COVID-19 patient to a hospital in Ipoh, Perak on Monday, 23 November

A picture of the man, seen lying unconscious on the ground and surrounded by several other healthcare personnel giving him emergency medical assistance, went viral on social media.

Many netizens gave their condolences as the viral message read, "An ambulance driver in Ipoh collapsed after fetching a COVID-19 patient. His cause of death is said to be exhaustion."

The Ministry of Health (MOH) is still investigating the ambulance driver's exact cause of death as it was later understood that he was suffering from several other illnesses

It was reported that the ambulance driver is a known asthma patient and was believed to be exhausted just before he fell unconscious.

According to Bernama, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the driver had been receiving treatment for other illnesses too.

"The MOH is still investigating the exact cause of death. In fact, there are several other illnesses," he said and declined to comment further.

However, the Health D-G did confirm that the ambulance driver tested negative for COVID-19

Dr Noor Hisham said that the driver had undergone several COVID-19 screenings prior to the incident and the results found him to be negative for the novel coronavirus.
