Johor firemen attempted to free a child's foot that got stuck in a drain hole at a shophouse on Jalan Serangkai 5 in Taman Bukit Dahlia, Pasir Gudang on Wednesday night, 23 June

In order to distract the victim while trying to remove his foot from the hole, firemen played him cartoons on a mobile phone.

According to New Straits Times, Pasir Gudang fire and rescue station (BBP) operation commander Iszahwati Supardi said their effort paid off when the three-year-old became engrossed in the cartoon while the work to remove his stuck foot was being done.

"He was stuck for over two hours before we were called to rescue him," Iszahwati added.

Iszahwati said they received the emergency call at 8.15pm, after which eight firemen and an Emergency Services Assistance Unit (EMRS) rushed to the scene

"It is believed that the children were enjoying a bath at the time of the incident when the victim's foot fell into an exposed hole in their bathroom," said Iszahwati.

News Straits Times reported that in order to free the victim, the firemen had to break the cement floor surrounding the hole and cut the drain pipe.

"It took us approximately an hour to free the victim, and we had to play him cartoons to keep him calm throughout that time," Iszahwati added

Luckily the victim was treated and did not sustain any major injuries. The rescue operation ended around 9.43pm.
