Popularly known as 'Kedai Makcik Seringgit', Haliza's stall is located along Jalan Pondok Labu in Kulim and offers meals and drinks at affordable prices.

Haliza runs the stall, which has been in operation since 2012, with her 48-year-old husband Mohamad Rozi Ishak.

"The budget price for a set of rice dish is RM2 and the drinks are only RM1. I sell at these prices because I feel for the students who do not have a big budget for food," Haliza explained to Bernama recently.

The budget meal offers a selection of dishes such as sardine, sausages, beef slices, fried or boiled egg, and vegetables that customers can choose from

"You can select one of the non-vegetarian dishes and a vegetable for RM2.

"All drinks, including iced tea, Milo, and Horlicks are sold for RM1. Only packet drinks are sold at the usual market price," added Haliza.

Kedai Makcik Seringgit is usually the busiest during lunch hours, with students from the surrounding colleges and schools coming to eat her famous nasi bajet (budget rice).

Bernama spoke to 18-year-old college student Aiman Syafiq Iza Syarrizan who's all praises for Kedai Makcik Seringgit

Aiman said that he goes to Haliza's stall often as the dishes are cheaper and more delicious compared to the ones sold in his college canteen.

"I come here with my friends all the time during lunch. The food is amazing," he said.

Meanwhile, Haliza said that contrary to popular belief, she actually makes good profit by selling food at low prices as it attracts a lot of customers

"I'm not losing money because if I was, I would have stopped this business long ago. I've been doing this for a long time and so many people are still coming to my stall.

"Also, I'm not too calculative when it comes to food, so long the price is reasonable and a lot of people can come and eat to their heart's content," she said.

Kedai Makcik Seringgit is open from 7am until 7pm daily.

About 70 kilometres away from Haliza's Kedai Makcik Seringgit, Surayani Mohd Nasir sells chicken rice for RM1 in Bedong, Kedah:
