Recently, a man who was eating dinner at an eatery was assaulted for refusing to entertain a couple of keychain sellers in Singapore

According to Lianhe Zaobao, a Chinese daily in Singapore, the man, surnamed Cai, was dining at Lor 9 Beef Kway Teow eatery in Geylang when he was approached by a tattooed young man selling keychains.

"He was holding a card filled with words but he wasn't mute or deaf. I suspected he was a fraud, so I politely refused to buy anything from him," recounted Cai, who works as an administrative assistant.

However, the keychain seller refused to budge and continued to pester Cai to buy a keychain from him. The 39-year-old, who didn't want his dinner interrupted, then told the man that he doesn't have money.

Hearing this, the keychain seller then mocked the man, saying, "No money but you're still eating such good food." This did not sit well with Cai, who asked him to repeat what he said.

The man started cursing at Cai, who then asked him to leave so Cai could go back to eating his dinner.

However, another man suddenly appeared from behind the keychain seller with a glass coffee cup in his hand and started bashing the cup at Cai's head, while yelling, "Don't mess with my brother."

The assault left Cai bleeding profusely and feeling dizzy

"I felt dizzy after being hit and I only vaguely remember someone helping me onto a chair, and then someone helped to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital," Lianhe Zaobao quoted Cai as saying.

Cai ended up receiving three stitches at the hospital and had to take two days of sick leave.

According to him, he still experiences headaches and has since lost his appetite.

He has also been asked by the doctor to return for a check-up next week, and if his headaches persists, Cai will need to go for an X-ray to check for blood clots, reported the daily.

Cai has since lodged a police report

He hopes that the two men can be caught as soon as possible.

"I also hope that those who know any information can provide clues to the police," Cai said.

However, the eatery staff, when interviewed by the daily, claimed that they didn't notice anything.

According to one of the staff, who didn't want to be named, "It was very busy at that time, so we didn't notice anything until some customers were attending to the injured man."

The staff shared that hawkers come to the eatery to sell miscellaneous items and that the staff don't turn them away. However, he did not recognise the two men, who haven't returned since the incident.
