A giant signboard featuring the English abbreviation 'KTHXBYE' installed on a pedestrian bridge in Melaka has been ordered to be immediately taken down by the city's mayor Mansor Sudin

According to a report in Harian Metro, the signage was installed on the main route, Lebuh Alor Gajah - Melaka Tengah -Jasin (AMJ), near Al-Azim Mosque in Peringgit.

Malacca City Historical Council (MBMB) Mayor Mansor Sudin said that the instruction was issued immediately after the signage went viral a few days ago.

The 'Kthnxbye' seen on the signage is a popular Internet slang, which is used as an abbreviation for 'okay, thank you, goodbye'

The signage by snack brand Mamee features its mascot Monster, which sometimes uses the abbreviated phrase in social media posts on Mamee’s accounts.

According to Mayor Mansur, such billboards cannot be used

"Such billboard cannot be used and is not approved. MBMB has instructed it to be brought down immediately," he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian yesterday.

Netizens had voiced their displeasure over the improper use of the language, saying it was only understood by 'WeChat' users

According to Malay Mail, Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari said his party will review the applications for the state’s billboards, especially those that use short forms.
