Family members of Lao Airlines crash victim, Angelin Teh, have arrived in southern Laos to help identify the bodies of Teh and her husband Joel Babcock, a United States citizen.

"Her brother and uncle are currently in Pakse, where the crash happened," Mohd Zakhir Haji Yusof, Counsellor and Head of Chancery in the Malaysian Embassy in Laos said Saturday.

"We have been informed by the Laotian government that a body of a Malaysian has been recovered but we still need confirmation by family members," he said, adding that the search for bodies from the wreckage in the Mekong river was still ongoing.

Although there has been news of the recovery of Teh's remains, the Malaysian embassy has yet to receive information on Babcock.

Mohd Zakhir said Teh's relatives would help to identify Babcock's body once the search mission was completed.

The virtually new ATR-72 turboprop plane flying from the capital Vientiane crashed at about 4.10 p.m. (0910 GMT) just eight kilometers (five miles) short of its destination Pakse, which is near the borders of both Thailand and Cambodia.

Officials said the weather was extremely bad and the plane had experienced severe turbulence during the one hour and 15 minute flight.

The airline released a list of the passengers on Thursday morning that included 7 people from France. The other passengers were from Laos, Vietnam, Canada, China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United States.

A Penangite, Angelin Teh, believed to be among 49 killed

A Penangite identified as Angelin Teh is believed to be among 49 killed in the Lao Airlines plane crash in Pakse, southern Laos on Wednesday.

She is believed to be working in a law firm and married to an American. They have been staying in Laos for the past three years. Her husband also died in the crash.
