KLANG: A 26-year-old lorry driver died on the way to hospital after being shot by one of two men on a motorcycle outside a bank in Jalan Besar here.

S. Sambhath sustained gunshots to the cheek and chest. He was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

S. Sambhath was shot at by a pillion rider along Jalan Besar Kapar at around 2.20am.

Deputy Klang Utara police chief Superintendent Jani Ahmad said a friend of the victim said he was chatting with Sambhath and a few others friends when two men on a red Yamaha 125Z motorcycle pulled up.

"Two men on a Yamaha 125z motorbike had parked outside the restaurant. The pillion rider alighted, took out a gun and shot the victim from three metres away," he told reporters today.

The victim's friend say they could only run when the motorcyclists started shooting

The victim’s friend P. Theeban, who was with Sambhat when the shooting took place, said they had just came out the bank after withdrawing money when two assailants on a motorcycle opened fired at them.

“We could not see the attackers. All we did was run when they started shooting at us,” he said.

Gang 08 is believed to be behind the killing of a lorry driver at a restaurant near a bank in Kapar early Wenesday morning.

The 27-year -old victim, believed to be a Gang 21 member, was shot dead while talking to his friends at the restaurant early Wenesday morning. Banners and posters of the victim bearing the number 21 can be seen around his residential area.

A pillion rider of one of the motorcycles fired eight shots at the victim and two hit Sambhath in the face and chest. “According to witnesses, the gunman was wearing a t-shirt with the number 08 printed at the back,” he added.

Sambhath's brother says the victim was never involved in criminal activities

When met by reporters at the victim’s house, his brother Prabhakaran claimed his brother was never involved in any criminal activities. “I really have no idea who would do such a thing to him,” said the devastated 25-year-old man.

S. Prabhakaran, 25, the younger brother of the victim, said Sambhath had worked hard to provide for the family with his five-year-old through his lorry rental businessservice.

“He was my only sibling andso we were very close. My parents and I were dependent on him. Now, we will have to think of a way to continue his business,” he said at the victim’s home in Taman Klang Utama.

Police are still looking for the motive for the shooting

Selangor deputy Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa said police wereare currently checking to see if there was any closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage in the area.

Jani said the victim's friends were unharmed. "We have yet to identify the motive for the shooting," he added and appealed to the public who had witnessed the shooting to contact the police.
