M'sian Borrows RM1,400 From Loan Sharks To Fund Her Nightlife But Ends Up Owing RM16,500

A 23-year-old woman has found herself in deep financial trouble after borrowing from nine different loan sharks to fund her nightlife
The victim, surnamed Chen (transliteration), borrowed a total of RM5,900 from various loan sharks but received only RM1,400.
In the end, she was forced to repay RM16,500.
Chen revealed her predicament at a press conference yesterday, 18 September, after receiving help from MCA public services and complaints department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, reported China Press.
She shared that her troubles began in mid-August when she borrowed RM400 from the first loan shark to cover her nightclub expenses, which quickly escalated to a debt of RM1,500. Chen paid it off immediately.
"However, they continued to harass me for more money, using different phone numbers to demand an additional RM500. They threatened to expose my personal and family information on social media if I didn't pay," she said.

One particularly aggressive loan shark demanded RM1,600 in repayment for a RM400 loan, despite having given her only RM200, reported Nanyang Daily.
With Chong's help, Chen has managed to resolve most of her issues with the loan sharks. However, one debt remains unresolved as the loan shark refuses to answer her calls.
Chong arranged negotiations with the nine loan sharks. Only seven of them agreed to negotiate, and with the help of her family, Chen repaid them RM15,000.
With the RM1,500 she paid to the first loan shark, she has settled a total debt repayment of RM16,500.
Chong added that all seven loan shark representatives he met were women, expressing his surprise at the involvement of women in such illicit activities.
