The National Influenza Immunisation Programme is set to begin on 18 February, offering free flu shots to those aged 60 and above

This initiative aims to protect the elderly from influenza, especially those with existing health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, or respiratory conditions

However, the availability of vaccines will depend on stock levels and eligibility criteria set by the Health Ministry.

Senior citizens can book their vaccination appointments through the MySejahtera app starting 14 February

The flu shots will be available at selected government health clinics nationwide.

Over 500 clinics will participate in this programme, ensuring convenient access for eligible individuals.

The Health Ministry expects this initiative to benefit around 170,000 senior citizens across Malaysia

According to the New Straits Times, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni encourages all eligible individuals to take advantage of the programme for their wellbeing.

Additionally, the ministry is welcoming collaborations from the private sector and state governments to expand and support the programme.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan has confirmed that vaccine stocks will be distributed nationwide.

The ministry will coordinate with state health departments to ensure a smooth vaccination rollout. A manual has also been provided to guide clinics on proper procedures, including reporting vaccine usage and any adverse effects.

Despite concerns, the Health Ministry has confirmed that there is no rising trend of influenza cases in Malaysia, nor any reported human cases of avian flu

The immunisation programme is a preventive measure to keep senior citizens safe and healthy.

Influenza is more serious than a cold and can be deadly for some individuals, as it can lead to serious complications, such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and the worsening of chronic conditions like asthma or heart disease.

If you or a loved one is eligible, don't forget to book an appointment on MySejahtera starting 14 February! Stay safe and take advantage of this free health initiative.
