A little girl from Melaka who had ear pain for two days turned out to have ticks living inside her ear canal

The girl's mother, Aqila Nasir, shared about the incident on Facebook, urging other parents to never take their children's complaints about pain lightly.

Aqila admitted that she had initially dismissed the severity of the issue when her daughter, Hayfa, first complained about pain in her left ear on 17 January.

"I checked her ear with a flashlight but did not see anything, so I assumed it was a pimple and asked her to wait until tomorrow. If she's still in pain, we would go to the clinic," the mother explained.

The next day, however, Hayfa woke up with neck pain and began acting listless, which alarmed the mother

"I shined a torch into her ear again, and this time, I noticed black debris inside her ear.

"Was it dried blood from a wound? But Hayfa told me she did not scratch her ears. And that's when the thought of ticks crossed my mind," recounted Aqila.

Wasting no time, Aqila and her husband took Hayfa to a nearby clinic.

Sure enough, the doctor's scope revealed multiple ticks and their eggs nestled in Hayfa's ear

"The doctor mentioned that the ticks had likely been there for some time, but Hayfa said it only started to hurt yesterday.

"Maybe she didn't feel it earlier because of her high pain tolerance, but that's why her dad always says if Hayfa complains of pain, it's definitely something serious," Aqila explained.

The doctor immediately carried out an extraction and thoroughly cleaned Hayfa's ear to prevent infection

Aqila shared that the removal process was painful because the ticks tend to grip onto the skin tightly.

However, the mother proudly shared a video of Hayfa enduring the procedure like a champ, despite the discomfort.
