Malaysia has moved up from third place last year to second globally in The Passport Index Global Ranking 2026
Data from the Passport Index showed that the United Arab Emirates held the top spot in the Passport Power Rank, while Singapore and Malaysia share second place.
Spain is ranked third, while 16 other countries, including Germany, Sweden, and Italy, share fourth place.
The Immigration Department highlighted the milestone in a social media update, saying the achievement reflected the international strength of the Malaysian passport
"Based on the ranking, Malaysian passport holders have access to 175 destinations, comprising 129 visa-free destinations and 46 destinations with visa-on-arrival, while 23 destinations require a visa," read the post.
That means Malaysian passport holders can access around nine in 10 destinations covered by the ranking without needing to obtain a visa before travelling.
