A massive insurance portfolio in China exposed a seven-year affair, leading to a fierce legal battle over millions of yuan

Zhen, a woman from Liuzhou, discovered her husband, Guo, had been secretly involved with his insurance agent, Li, who was eight years his junior.

According to South China Morning Post, the deception first surfaced in 2017 when Zhen found texts reading "I miss you" alongside multiple transfers of 520 yuan (RM316), a number mimicking the phrase "I love you" in Chinese.

The affair came to light when the wife's medical policies exposed the man's double life

While hospitalised in 2024, Zhen learned that Guo had purchased medical insurance for her and their 2-year-old daughter through Li.

Digging deeper, she calculated that Guo had sent Li over 3 million yuan (RM1.82 million) over seven years.

Insurance logs showed he had purchased more than 50 policies from Li, spending over 10 million yuan (RM6.08 million) in premiums, helping her secure a managerial promotion

Zhen then filed a lawsuit to reclaim her family's marital assets.

She sued Guo, Li, and the insurance company, seeking a refund of the insurance premiums and demanding that Li return the 3 million yuan.

Li vehemently denied the affair, claiming their 180 hotel meetings were purely for business discussions.

However, a police report revealed that Guo had allegedly confessed to the hotel rendezvous, admitting his relationship with Li had heavily influenced his repeated policy purchases.

The court ultimately ruled the relationship was improper and ordered restitution

Li was ordered to return approximately 900,000 yuan (RM547,000) in inappropriate gifts to Zhen, along with interest.

While the insurance contract dispute remains under legal review, the dramatic saga has exploded across mainland Chinese social media, racking up over 100 million views.
