A 67-year-old man who was duct-taped to his seat following an alleged mid-air meltdown claimed he had no recollection of the chaotic event
Layne Arthur Lundeen was on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Newark on 3 September when his behaviour suddenly became volatile.
According to NDTV, the disruption forced the aircraft to divert to Baltimore/Washington International Airport, where police found him tightly restrained with zip ties and duct tape.
Witnesses described the sudden shift in his demeanour as being like a "light switch" being flipped
Before the chaos erupted, he had reportedly consumed two alcoholic drinks and appeared perfectly calm to those nearby.
Things escalated when he allegedly began shouting profanities, making racial remarks, and becoming physically aggressive.
Two passengers helped the flight crew restrain him with duct tape until the plane landed safely in Maryland.
"I don't remember any of it," he reportedly said when questioned about the incident
Lundeen appeared confused by what had happened, reportedly expressing surprise when he was told that he had allegedly assaulted a police officer upon landing.
He was arrested and formally charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
He was released ahead of his next court appearance on 19 October, but the alleged outburst cost him his job at an Arizona real estate firm.
