In an ill-fated attempt to prove his devotion, a man in China ended up in hospital and lost a section of his small intestine after enduring a three-hour labour pain simulation at his girlfriend's request

The couple from Henan province took part in the controversial test after the woman's family insisted her boyfriend should experience a fraction of what women endure during childbirth.

Initially reluctant, he eventually conceded, stepping into a labour pain simulation centre to undergo the ordeal, South China Morning Post reported.

Using electrical currents to mimic uterine contractions, the procedure started with gradually increasing pain levels

The woman, chronicling the event on social media, described how her boyfriend began screaming at level eight, was sobbing by level ten, and eventually ended up gasping for air.

Following the session, he was drenched in sweat and suffering from abdominal pain.

What seemed like temporary discomfort soon escalated into a medical emergency.

Days later, severe pain landed him in the hospital, where doctors discovered that part of his small intestine was irreparably damaged and had to be removed

The fallout was swift. His family not only cancelled the engagement but also barred the woman from visiting him, threatening legal action. Chinese law mandates compensation for medical expenses in cases of personal injury, meaning she could now be financially liable.

The incident has sparked a fierce debate online. Some argue that childbirth pain is too complex to be artificially replicated, while others condemn the woman's actions as reckless and harmful.

"True love doesn’t require testing," one commentator remarked.
