Popular Tourist Site In China Gets Caught Creating Fake Snow Using Cotton & Soapy Water
Yes, all that 'snow' you see was made out of cotton.
A tourist attraction in China has issued an apology and temporarily closed its doors after it was caught using cotton and soapy water to mimic snowfall
Chengdu Snow Village, a newly launched site in Sichuan province, attempted to create a winter wonderland despite the lack of real snow, only to face backlash from disappointed visitors.
According to South China Morning Post, the controversy erupted after tourists noticed that the 'snow' covering cottages and forest paths was, in fact, artificial.
Many visitors took to social media to express their frustration
"I feel cheated. My intelligence has been insulted!" one visitor raged in a viral video.
Another lamented: "I wanted to see snow, but you showed me cotton. I am speechless."
Others echoed similar sentiments, accusing the attraction of misleading advertising.
A representative from the tourist site admitted to using cotton to stage the snowy scene.
According to an employee, the region typically experiences snowfall every winter, and the attraction had been heavily promoted under that assumption.
However, the expected snow never arrived, forcing them to resort to artificial measures.
Following the outrage, the site swiftly removed the cotton and shut down operations, citing the "big negative impact" of the controversy.
The company later released a statement acknowledging that their attempt to recreate a picturesque winter setting had backfired.
"We sincerely apologise for failing to deliver a real snow experience and for disrupting visitors' travel plans," the statement read.
