Man Shot Dead In JB Receives Grand Send-Off With 1,500 Mourners At Funeral

The man shot dead in Johor Bahru last Wednesday, 8 January, received a grand send-off at his funeral yesterday, 12 January, which attracted over 1,500 mourners

According to Oriental Daily, the 42-year-old was a prominent figure in Johor and a leader of Persatuan Penganut Agama Kuang Sheng, a religious association in the state.

Family and friends began gathering at 1pm for a condolence and worship ceremony at the Tiong Hua funeral parlour, with three funeral lions leading the ceremony.

At 4pm, the funeral procession began.

The moment the coffin was carried out of the mourning hall, the rain reportedly stopped.

Indian drums were played during the procession, reported China Press.

About 20 men were seen carrying the coffin on bamboo poles as they walked behind a hearse for a distance of 1km.

The road leading to the Nirvana Memorial Park in Kulai, where the victim was laid to rest, was flanked by over 100 wreaths.

On 8 January, the victim was shot four times in front of a restaurant in Taman Setia Indah while he was talking on the phone

The police are currently investigating whether the man's murder was a "gang hit", reported the New Straits Times.

A source said the victim may have been killed for allegedly providing information to the authorities.

The source pointed to Ngo Seik Kee, or the "5 Colour" gang, as the possible culprits.

The gang is reportedly involved in drug activities and repossessing cars.
