A man has surrendered to police after allegedly stabbing his wife 13 times in Kulim, Kedah
During the incident on 14 September, the 43-year-old man reportedly stabbed his 39-year-old wife 13 times. The incident allegedly stemmed from jealousy and marital disputes.
According to Berita Harian, he later surrendered to the authorities at Lunas police station at 8.40pm, handing over a 20cm folding knife believed to be the murder weapon.
The alleged attack took place in the master bedroom of the couple's single-storey terrace house in Taman Tiram
Kulim district police chief Supt Syamsul Sinring said the victim suffered seven stab wounds to the chest, five to the abdomen, and one to the right rib.
"Police examination found stains believed to be blood on the bed sheets, mattress, pillows, headboard, as well as several items on the bed," he said.
Syamsul added that neighbours did not hear the altercation due to heavy rain at the time.
Following the incident, the unemployed man reportedly bathed and picked up his 3-year-old child from a babysitter
"After the incident, the suspect is said to have showered and picked up the child from the babysitter before handing the child over to their sister at the Juru Rest and Service Area (R&R) in Penang," Syamsul said.
"The suspect also informed his sister that he had stabbed his wife before going to Lunas police station to turn himself in," he added.
The victim was rushed to Kulim Hospital by her family but was pronounced dead at 9.30pm
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
"The suspect, who is from Parit Buntar, Perak, is unemployed, but a preliminary urine test found that he tested negative for drugs and has no criminal record," Syamsul said.
The victim's body was sent to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital forensic department in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination.
