A 13-year-old from Sultan Azlan Shah MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) in Kuala Kangsar, Perak was beaten and bullied because he had reprimanded a fellow student for watching pornography

Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said this is what the victim believes could have set off the bullying incident on 9 December, reported Harian Metro.

"We have interviewed the victim and found that the cause of the fight, or why he was bullied, was because he advised one of the suspects to stop watching explicit videos on his mobile phone," the police chief told reporters on Tuesday, 14 December.

"The victim said if they do not stop, he will report it to the teachers or hostel warden."

Mior said this made the six suspects furious and an older Form Three student ordered them to beat the victim up.

Following the incident, police arrested 10 students from the school, including those who witnessed and abetted the incident

"They were released on police bail the next day after having their statements taken," Mior said, adding that the police have also confiscated 11 mobile phones that will be sent to forensics for analysis.

The victim is still at a hospital in Selangor receiving treatment for soft tissue injuries, he added. A medical officer reported that he is is stable condition and not experiencing any serious symptoms.

The police chief said the case will be referred to a deputy public prosecutor for further action.

Meanwhile, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has expelled the 10 bullies from the school

The Star reported MARA director-general Datuk Azhar Abdul Manaf saying that the college's disciplinary committee made the decision after careful consideration.

The students were expelled effective Tuesday, 14 December.

"MARA takes the incident of bullying that happened last week seriously and the punishment shows that we are firm and do not compromise on bullying among students under any MARA educational institution or MARA sponsorship," he said.
