A married couple died while their two young children sustained serious injuries after a lorry carrying a heavy load of hot tar overturned and crushed their multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) along Jalan Yong Peng-Muar

The fatal collision occurred around 12.30pm on Sunday, 1 November, at Kilometre 8.5 of the federal route near Parit Yaani, according to Harian Metro.

Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani stated that the family was travelling in their MPV from Yong Peng towards Parit Sulong when the incident occurred.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the oncoming lorry was travelling in the opposite direction when it suddenly suffered a tyre blowout

The driver lost control of the heavy vehicle, causing it to skid violently across the carriageway before rolling over and crushing the victims' car beneath its weight.

The crushing impact, compounded by the spilling of scalding tar, claimed the lives of the MPV driver, Mohd Hardi Mohd Husin, 46, and his front-seat passenger and wife, Tengku Syafirana Tengku Abdullah, 44.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced both victims dead at the scene due to severe physical trauma.

Mohd Hardi suffered catastrophic head trauma, severe fractures to both arms, and extensive burn wounds across his body.

His wife sustained fatal injuries to her head and internal organs alongside comparable thermal burns from the spilt asphalt.

The couple's two children seated in the rear survived the horrific ordeal

The couple's 11-year-old adopted daughter and their eight-year-old biological son sustained lacerations, head injuries, and second-degree burns to their legs.

Rescue personnel swiftly transported both injured children to the emergency department of Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail (HSNI) in Batu Pahat for urgent surgical care and monitoring.

Traffic investigators have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving

Police have launched a comprehensive inspection into the roadworthiness of the commercial heavy vehicle, focusing specifically on load limits and tyre maintenance records, to establish the sequence of events leading up to the blowout.

Shahrulanuar urged members of the public who witnessed the tragedy, or motorists who may have captured relevant dashboard camera footage of the incident, to come forward immediately to assist with ongoing investigations at the nearest police station.
