A video of a teacher allegedly forced to crawl on the classroom floor by a parent of one of her students recently went viral on social media

The slightly longer than two minutes video was uploaded by Facebook user, Asmahadi As Ad-Dimasyiqi, on Monday morning, 24 February, and has since gotten over 1.8 million views.

The video shows the person recording, believed to be the mother, walking into a classroom with two teachers and a group of students

Nothing was said when the teacher suddenly goes onto her hands and knees to start crawling around the classroom. A few students joined their teacher to crawl on the floor.

From behind the phone, the mother is heard saying, "Why are you calling the students to crawl with you? Didn't they already do this yesterday?"

"Students, you don't have to crawl on the floor. I did not ask you to. You already did it yesterday right? Ustazah already told you to do this yesterday?"

She is then heard telling the other teacher that her daughter was hurt and afraid to come to school after the teacher made her and other students crawl on the floor the previous day.

Based on the students' uniform in the video, the incident most likely happened in a religious school

However, as reported by New Straits Times, it is unknown at which school exactly the incident took place, or why the teacher had made the students crawl on the floor the previous day.

The incident has gotten much disapproval from netizens

"Many teachers definitely felt disappointed and ashamed with this parent's actions," said a Facebook user.

While another user said, "This is so rude. The mother is rude, it would not be impossible if her children followed and became as rude as her."

"Are there not other ways to punish children?" questioned this user, "Don't punish them until their clothes are too dirty for prayers."

Since the video went viral, it seems that a lawyer has gotten touch with the teacher and school to offer her legal advice

In a Facebook post, lawyer Nurhidayaty Maidin wrote that she advised the school to prepare a few documents to be signed by the mother so that this incident would not repeat itself, instead of just accepting a spoken apology.

Harian Metro reported that the student's mother and teacher have since met up and settled the issue amicably.
