Motorcyclist Accused Of Drunk Riding Pleads Not Guilty After Hitting KL Marathon Runners

The 21-year-old allegedly rode against traffic while trying to evade a police roadblock.

A man pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court today, 5 October, to two charges of riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol and injuring two participants in the 2026 Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM)

According to the New Straits Times, Muhammad Saiful Sabinee, 21, was accused of riding against the flow of traffic with 184mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood before crashing into two runners, Azwan Ibrahim, 41, and Mazni Lamin, 50.

The incident allegedly took place at Jalan Munshi at around 6.14am on Saturday, 3 October.

Videos of the incident went viral on social media, showing a female participant lying on the road while the motorcyclist and his pillion rider were detained by police and members of the public.

The two men had allegedly entered the marathon route while riding against traffic in an attempt to evade a police roadblock.

According to Berita Harian, the woman victim suffered injuries to her neck, while the man sustained injuries to his right knee and hand.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa previously said an initial alcohol screening of the motorcyclist returned a positive result, with an Ethyl Alcohol Breath Analyser (EBA) reading of 164mg.

Muhammad Saiful was charged under Section 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987

The provision carries a prison sentence of between seven and 10 years and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction.

It also allows the court to disqualify the offender from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least seven years from the date of conviction.

The court was also told that Muhammad Saiful does not hold a driving licence.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Mohd Razib offered bail of RM10,000 for each charge, with one surety

His lawyer, Muhammad Iqbal Azmi from the National Legal Aid Foundation, appealed for a lower bail amount, saying his client works as a warehouse worker, is single, and earns RM1,500 a month.

He added that Muhammad Saiful has four siblings, one of whom is still in school, while his mother was present in court to post bail.

Magistrate Aliaa Anwar allowed bail of RM10,000 for both charges and fixed 7 January 2027 for mention.
