With the introduction of Menu Rahmah, many Malaysians, including students, have taken to social media to share the meals they ate while battling through trying times

One Malaysian Twitter user recently shared that they had a friend who ate only one packet of instant noodles per day.

According to the user, their friend died after years of eating unhealthy food and the doctors found that he was malnourished.

"I had a friend who only ate a packet of instant noodles broken in half daily. Years later, he died of multiple organ failure and the doctor said he also suffered severe malnutrition," they wrote.

"Even with Menu Rahmah, many [students] actually can't afford it on a daily basis."

Following the tweet, other Malaysian students shared their daily meals in the comment section, with the majority only spending RM1 on food

One student said they are currently only eating to fill their stomach rather than to satisfy their hunger.

They added that they usually will only spend RM1 on food, eating just white rice and fried chicken crumbs.

"For five days a week, I only eat to fill my stomach, I only spend RM1 for white rice and fried chicken crumbs for lunch, and at night I only eat instant noodles," they wrote.

Another student said that they also only spend RM1 on food, eating only white rice mixed with some gravy.

"If I have more money, I can buy a vegetable and potato dish like this for RM2," they wrote, adding a picture of their meal.

"At night, if I'm hungry, I go to bed early because I don't have the energy to do anything," they added.

Meanwhile, another student said that they would bring their own sambal to reduce the price of their lunch.

"I bring sambal from home, and if I'm really hungry, I would buy a piece of chicken," they wrote.

"Sometimes if I don't have money, I have to starve so I don't trouble my parents."

They also included a screenshot of a conversation they had with their mother, who asked if they were eating only white rice and sambal for the day.

"I have to use my money to pay for books," they told their mother.

"Pity you," she replied.
