Food prices appear to be a topic that Malaysians discuss every other week as they brace themselves for the country's current economic state
One Malaysian was taken aback by the price of their lunch when they were charged so much for two plates of rice with simple side dishes.
According to a viral tweet posted by user @isusemasaviral, the local said they went to a restaurant in Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, for their lunch break.
While at the restaurant, they ordered two plates of white rice with grilled fish, bitter bean, sweet soy beef, and small bits of fried squid.
They were shocked when they received the bill for their food, which totalled RM71.50.
"Excluding drinks, these lunches cost RM28 and RM37 each. They said they were charged RM2 for each small squid that they took," the user tweeted.
Malaysians were outraged by the price of the lunch and expressed their displeasure in the comment section
Some users claimed that they had gone to the same restaurant and were also charged a ridiculous amount while eating there.
"They will charge you a different price today, and they will charge you a different price again tomorrow," wrote one user.
"It's as if Malaysia is in the middle of the desert for them to charge seafood at that price," wrote another user.
Meanwhile, one user suggested that every restaurant openly display its food prices.
"Just hang it with cellophane tape. Write the prices with a marker so everyone can see clearly how much they are supposed to pay," they wrote.
As of writing, the tweet has garnered over 1,700 retweets and 2,500 likes.
