Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is reportedly expected to settle the RM50 million fine today, 4 November, to qualify to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest

According to the New Straits Times, a source said the fine will be paid by a representative at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex today.

Following the payment, Najib is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence at his residence in Langgak Duta, Kuala Lumpur.

On 18 September, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until 23 August 2028

Najib's lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, previously said Najib would be allowed to stay with his family at his residence.

Shafee also said the Prison Department had instructed Najib not to share the details with the public or the press, as the information was intended only for him.

"He cannot disclose the content; it is only for him. Because they said if you disclose the content, the public and the press will later start making up all sorts of stories. Everybody will discuss that matter," Shafee told reporters last month.

In July 2020, Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after being convicted on seven corruption charges in the SRC International case.

His prison sentence was subsequently reduced by half to six years in early 2024 following a decision by the Federal Territories Pardons Board.
