Najib Razak's Lawyer Gets His Passport Back So He Can Fly To New York For His Son

Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said that he needed to fly to New York to accompany his son who is continuing his higher education in the United States.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has granted Datuk Seri Najib Razak's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, the temporary release of his passport to fly to New York

According to Malaysiakini, Shafee previously surrendered his passport to the court as part of his bail terms in his ongoing criminal trial.

However, he said that he needed to fly to New York to accompany his son who is continuing his higher education in the United States.

High Court judge Muhammad Jamil Hussin allowed the application for the temporary release of Shafee's passport from today until 3 December

The judge allowed it after no objection was raised by deputy public prosecutor S Nithia.

The Edge Markets reported that in his application before the court, Shafee said that he needs to fly to New York on 27 October and return on 30 November to help his son "settle in" at the New School Parsons in New York.

Shafee has been on trial since 13 September 2018 for two charges of receiving money derived from illegal activities

He is also facing two charges of engaging in transactions resulting from illegal activities, namely submitting incorrect tax returns.
