Research firm ILHAM Centre has found that Datuk Seri Najib Razak remains the political leader with the highest number of social media followers
In a Facebook post yesterday, 19 May, the research firm said Najib has 9.35 million followers across Facebook, YouTube, X, Instagram, TikTok, and Threads.
It explained that Najib's strength is particularly pronounced on Facebook (4.6 million) and X (3.2 million), indicating significant influence among mature audiences and politically active users.
"This positioning suggests that despite facing various political and legal challenges, Najib's political brand still retains a very high digital appeal," it said in its analysis.
Meanwhile, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are ranked behind Najib, with 8.11 million and 7.9 million followers, respectively.
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and Khairy Jamaluddin follow next with 7.6 and 6.4 million followers, respectively.

In its analysis, ILHAM Centre highlighted that YouTube remains highly underutilised among political leaders
However, Rafizi Ramli, who ranks eighth on the list, has the highest number of followers on the video streaming platform.
"Rafizi Ramli emerges as the YouTube leader with 137,000 followers, followed by Mahathir Mohamad and Khairy Jamaluddin.
"This suggests that long-form content explaining policies and analysis still has its own niche audience, and has not been fully optimised by most Malaysian politicians," it said.
The research firm also noted that Syed Saddiq commands the highest followers on Instagram (2.2 million), TikTok (2.3 million), and Threads (643,000), indicating that the Muar member of parliament has a strong influence among the Gen Z demographic.
