Showing his support for the movie, Namewee says it is unreasonable to ban 'The New Village' after approving the script

"I think it's really unreasonable. 'The New Village' is a local movie which was supposed to be released on the 22nd August. But due to some complaints from some stupid peoples, you're taking down and putting a ban on the movie. I think it's simply unreasonable."

Namewee also implied that it was not right for The New Village to be reviewed now, when the script was approved before filming began.

"Why didn't you ban this (Tanda Putera) movie too?" he asks, citing double standard

"A local Malay movie 'Tanda Putera' will be released on 29th August. What's up with this movie? It's a story about the 13th May riots by the Chinese. Then why didn't you ban this movie, too?"

"He has insulted our race, religion and culture. There is no sense of respect at all. If we let this slide and just settle for an apology, issues like this would repeat itself. We have given him too much leeway to do what he wants."

"When it comes to Malays, the AG is quick to take action but with non-Malays, they are just left alone," he said. "We are not trying to be racist or to accuse anyone. The government just needs to take necessary action," said Abdul Rahman.

Utusan columnist Awang Selamat says "Apa lagi dia mau?"

Its Mingguan Malaysia weekly's columnist Awang Selamat today called Namewee racist, childish and a person who did not know his history - saying he was being an extremist for voicing out against the decision to halt the screening of the film "The New Village".

“He (Namewee) had several times caused a controversy including insulting the ‘Negara Ku’. Not long ago, Namewee, (after apologising for his rudeness), had support from political leaders including Mohamed Nazri Aziz, but not this time.”

“I understand why Nazri would be so angry and no longer sympathises with him. This was because Namewee is racist, had gone overboard and took lightly the government’s decisions,” he wrote. “Apa lagi dia mahu? (What else does he want?)

"Every Malaysian must be patriotic. National aspirations should be the utmost. If he does not understand that, then what does it mean to him to be a Malaysian?” he added.
