Nearly 100 employees of Media Mulia Sdn Bhd, the publisher of Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo!, will be placed on paid leave as the company restructures its operations and shifts its focus towards digital platforms

The company announced the rationalisation exercise on 1 November, saying it was reviewing its business model, operational structure, and corporate direction to ensure its long-term sustainability amid changes in the media industry.

Media Mulia director and chief financial officer Abd Wahid Idris said the move reflected the industry's growing shift towards digital platforms.

However, he stressed that the company would continue publishing its print newspapers for readers who remain loyal to the physical editions.

The company said the restructuring was necessary to secure its long-term business sustainability and ensure the organisation could adapt to the changing media landscape.

Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo! will continue publishing print editions

Despite the restructuring, Media Mulia said it remained committed to preserving the identities and legacies of both newspapers.

Wahid said the publications would retain their distinctive content, editorial identities, reporting approaches, and credibility.

He also said the current management had revived Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo! after their previous owner ceased operations in 2019.

The company said the latest strategic adjustments were necessary to ensure both brands and the organisation could continue operating, while preventing a repeat of the circumstances that led to the previous shutdown.

Media Mulia added that it remained committed to protecting the welfare and rights of its employees in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
