Social media users have praised the Ministry of Federal Territories for taking good care of the residents at Sentul Perdana Community Centre in the past week

The community centre is one of the six multipurpose halls in Kuala Lumpur that have been turned into a temporary shelter for over 500 homeless people who were tracked down by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

They have been placed in these centres around the city to keep them safe from COVID-19 while the Movement Control Order (MCO) is in place.

According to Malay Mail, they have also been tested for COVID-19, and no one has come back positive.

Over the past few days, the Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa has shown that the authorities have taken further steps to ensure their safety and hygiene while they seek refuge in these centres.

Annuar Musa wrote that the ministry has seen to the needs of the homeless, first by installing cubicles for the hundreds of residents

Before the orange fabric cubicles were installed, the residents of the shelter were seen lying on mattresses laid out on the floor in rows in the open space, one metre apart from each other.

According to Malay Mail, the newly installed cubicles now ensures that proper social distancing is observed and grants each of them some privacy.

"Alhamdulillah. My order to install the cubicles for the homeless is swiftly being done tonight. Praise to God. I will take care of blankets after this," Annuar Musa tweeted on Monday, 6 April.

The next day, to ensure proper hygiene was kept, each of the residents were given a haircut

"Today, the homeless will take turns getting their hair cut. They look more neat! Look at them before and after," tweeted Annuar Musa again on Tuesday, 7 April.

Lastly, it was arranged for all of the homeless to be given blankets, which the minister said was donated by his family

"Alhamdulillah, we have a supply of 550 blankets for the homeless, and we'll send them tomorrow. I hope they don't sleep without blankets as it might affect their health, especially those who are aged and unwell," said Annuar Musa.

And with help, they did deliver the blankets on Tuesday night.

"Now they can sleep more comfortably," the minister tweeted after distributing the blankets.

Netizens were full of gratitude towards the Ministry for their efforts

"Allah, I'm so touched to see this. Thank you Tan Sri and all the NGOs who were involved. Hope Allah repays all your kindness," said a Twitter user.

While another said, "Small matters but big significance. Congratulations Tan Sri and team."

"Those are microfibre blankets. Alhamdulillah, they are comfortable," said another observant netizen.

"I hope they get enough rest. And when the MCO ends, they have morale and new energy to possibly change their lives. Keeping them in prayer. The importance of assistance, thank you to those concerned, they too are citizens."
